Port Orange, FL-UPDATE: An 8-year-old who accidentally shot and killed himself at a Port Orange home last week is identified as Christopher Scurry and police say the gun used in the accidental shooting had been reported stolen in South Daytona. A neighbor, Eric Salvioli, was in the home, performing chest compressions on Christopher when police arrived.

Earlier reporting: An 8-year-old Port Orange boy has died after shooting himself in the chest. He was pronounced dead at Halifax Hospital just before 1 P.M. Port Orange Police officers responded to a 911 call at a home in the 800 block of Hudson Lane, just before noon today.

When they arrived, they confirmed that the boy suffered a gunshot wound to the upper torso area.  His 12-year-old brother was performing CPR with the assistance of a neighbor.  The home belongs to the boys 80-year-old great-grandfather, who was in another room when the incident occurred.

At this time, investigators believe that the wound was self-inflicted with a 9mm handgun.  Investigators are still working to learn where the gun was located in the home.
