Port Orange, FL - The City of Port Orange will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate its new Reclaimed Water Reservoir Outfall and Filtration System. Thanks to this project, the City now meets peak reclaimed water demands and no longer has to discharge into the Halifax River.

The ceremony will be at 3:30 PM on Thursday, April 21 on the City's Shuntz Road property off of Tomoka Farms Rd. in Port Orange.

The lake system will allow the city to store reclaimed water so that during dry weather, water can be taken from the lake system and used.

According to Kent Donahue, Public Information Officer and Grants Manager for the City of Port Orange, the filter can "provide an additional 2 million gallons per day to the reclaimed water system by filtering particles from the lake itself."

When the lakes become filled with excess reclaimed water, the water can be discharged into the adjacent wetlands after it meets regulatory requirements.

Construction of this facility cost $2,070,000 and was completed by Sawcross, Inc.
