Pierson Woman Arrested For Child Neglect Gets Probation

Daytona Beach, FL - A 36-year-old Pierson woman gets three years' probation after deputies found her and two children living in a home crawling with roaches and fleas and three dead dogs in a freezer.

Victoria Kanger entered a no-contest plea in Volusia County court this week to one count of felony child neglect, a charge which will not show on her record if she gets through probation successfully.

Supervision will be required when she has any contact with at least one of the children, according to the terms of the deal. Kanger will also be required to take parenting classes.

The father of one of Kanger's children called the Volusia County Sheriff's Office to complain about the conditions of the home in October 2017, saying he could smell human waste coming from the property on Hastings Road before he even got to the front door.

When questioned, Kanger said that she was in a custody battle and that the father was trying to get her in trouble.

The arrest report also showed that Kanger stored the dead dogs in the freezer because she didn't have a shovel she could use to bury them.

Two other dogs were also found in the home, per the report, along with numerous cats and very little food.

The children were removed at the recommendation of the Florida Department of Children & Families investigator who went to the home.
