Orange City, FL - What was originally thought to be a suspicious package ends up being an employee turning in their resignation letter along with a laptop and ID.

Around 10 a.m. today (October 4th), the Volusia County Sheriff's and the VCSO Bomb Squad responded to University High School after school employees found what they called a suspicious package.

The package was a box wrapped in tape with an envelope on top.

The school was locked down and students and staff in the area were evacuated while the Sheriff's Office's Bomb Squad tended to the package.

Upon further investigation, VCSO found out that the package was delivered to the school that morning by FedEx, and contained a laptop, ID, and resignation letter from an employee.

Not long after the scene was cleared, the lockdown was lifted and classes resumed normally.

This incident comes a week after a drunk male wandered onto the campus of Spruce Creek High School and made his way into an unlocked classroom. In that incident, the school was not placed under lockdown.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood appeared on the Marc Bernier Show today and compared both incidents. Sheriff Chitwood said that the University High School incident was a false alarm, but he would rather a school is locked down for a false alarm than not be locked down during a real incident.

Sheriff Chitwood is live with Marc Bernier right now on FM 93.5/AM 1150 WNDB until 4 p.m. You can also tune in live through NewsDaytonaBeach.com
