Volusia County, FL - An Ormond Beach sex offender was convicted on Thursday of kidnapping, beating, and raping a woman multiple times across Volusia and Flagler Counties. 34-year-old Obtravies Watkins, of Ormond Beach, was arrested in November after officials say he raped a 25-year-old woman who was found naked and bleeding, crawling out of the woods near Old Kings Rd. near the Volusia and Flagler County lines. The woman told officials that she was walking home from a friend's house in November when Watkins offered her a ride. She said Watkins proceeded to rape her and threaten her with a gun. The attack was said to have lasted for about seven hours, and the woman was taken to the hospital with injuries over her entire body. On Thursday, a Volusia County jury of six men deliberated for about five hours before finding Watkins guilty of two counts of sexual battery and one count of kidnapping, according to the State Attorney's Office. Watkins is scheduled to be sentenced on March 23, and he will remain in the Volusia County Jail until then. Career Criminal Prosecutor Ashley Terwilleger conducted the trial with Assistant State Attorney Sarah Thomas. Circuit Judge Leah Case presided over the case.
