Ormond PD File More Charges On Robbery Suspect

Ormond Beach, FL - An Ormond Beach man already in custody for a gas station robbery in Daytona Beach last week is formally linked to a similar incident at another convenience store a few days earlier.

The Ormond Beach Police Department charged 34-year-old Shane P. Miller (left) yesterday with robbing the Circle K on North U.S. 1 next to Iron Horse Saloon on July 22nd. It comes a week after the Daytona Beach Police Department arrested him and a woman for robbing a RaceTrac on West International Speedway Boulevard near Interstate 95.

In both cases, police believe Miller entered the store, selected an item and went up to the cashier to pay for it, waiting for the cashier to open the register drawer. That's when he would reach over the counter, snatch the till from inside the drawer and take off running out of the store, according to investigators.

Charges are pending against Miller in two other similar cases, according to OBPD Officer Keith Walker. Those would be on July 15th at a Sunoco on State Road A1A near Rockefeller Drive and July 21st at the CVS Pharmacy on East Granada Boulevard next to A1A.

As of this morning, Miller remains under $40,000 bond at Volusia County Jail on charges of robbery by sudden snatching, principal to strong arm robbery, felony retail theft and trespassing. VCJ records show Miller has been booked there at least 20 times since December 2004.

The other person arrested by DBPD in the RaceTrac incident - 27-year-old Chelcie R. Darder (right) - also remains at VCJ as of this morning under a $20,000 bond on charges of accessory after the fact, no valid driver's license and giving a false name to police. Detectives think she was the driver of the vehicle Miller used to flee the scene after running out of the store.
