Ormond Beach, FL - Update: In Tuesday night's meeting the Ormond Beach City Commission voted unanimously (4 - 0) in favor of raising the building height limit on New Britain Ave from N Beach St to N Ridgewood Ave from 2 to 3 stories. But buildings up to 5 stories remain a possibility. Earlier Reporting: In Tuesday's Ormond Beach City Commission meeting, officials will discuss changing the height limit for buildings on New Britain Ave from North Beach St to N Ridgewood Ave in the historic area of Ormond Beach. According to Steven Spraker, Sr. Planner for the City of Ormond Beach, a developer has applied for an amendment to the land development code. The amendment proposes to raise the current height limitation of 2 stories. The amendment went before the City's Planning Board on Dec. 8, 2016. "What the Planning Board said in their review was that their belief is that they should allow up to 3 stories as a staff approval," said Spraker. "Then anything over 3 stories... would have to go through a rezoning which would have the Planning Board review and the City Commission review so that everyone could see and have input on what development was being proposed." But according to Spraker, this amendment doesn't have any building project associated with it. "There is no development plan pending," he said. "It's not like they're going to go to a building permit." The application was submitted by Highlander Corp., through attorney Glenn Storch and Wivigeco LLC. According to Spraker, Wivigeco and Highlander Corp. are owned by Bill Jones, who's known for restoring several buildings on W Granada Blvd. Jones owns the Grind Gastropub and Kona Tiki Bar, 31 on the Boulevard, the Rose Villa, Rosie's Cafe, and Dunn's Attic. The OBCC will be meeting at the Commission Chambers, 22 S Beach St, on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at 7 PM. OBCC photo courtesy OrmondBeach.org. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2016.
