Orlando, FL - The gunman authorities say is responsible for shooting an Orlando police officer and killing four children in a standoff has been identified as a former Volusia County resident. Gary Wayne Lindsey Jr. was the suspect in a nearly 20-hour standoff after barricading himself in an apartment at the Westbrook Apartments near Universal Studios, according to the Orlando Police Department. When OPD arrived on scene in response to a domestic disturbance call, they were met with gunfire that now has Orlando officer Kevin Valencia in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center, according to Orlando police chief John Mina.   Lindsey was a former Volusia County resident who was arrested in December of 2008 for first-degree arson, domestic battery, and attempting to flee or elude law enforcement. He has been booked at the Volusia County Jail over five times since his arson charge in 2008 including violation of probation in May. Police lost contact with Lindsey around 8:30 pm. It is still unknown when Lindsey killed the four children held hostage before taking his own life. The children that were held hostage by Lindsey were 1, 6, 10, and 11 years old and believed to be the children of his girlfriend. Lindsey's mugshot is courtesy of Volusia County Jail.
