Orange City Police Officer-Involved Shooting, Suspect Caught

Orange City, FL - An Orange City Police officer, during the course of a stolen vehicle investigation, fired shots at the vehicle, a Ford F-250, as it was driving in his direction yesterday (September 19) afternoon. The incident happened around 2:41 p.m. at the Advanced Auto Parts Store on Enterprise Road.

When officers arrived. the truck was backed into a parking space. As officers approached, the driver, 40-year-old Ryan Ladd, fled south behind the business and through the grass/backyards of the Orange City flats residential apartments located on Enterprise Road. At that time, Ladd sped toward the exit of the complex and in doing so, toward the officer who then discharged his firearm.

The vehicle turned northbound on Enterprise Road where officers were deploying stop sticks, getting a hit on the right front tire of the truck. Ladd continued to flee the area. The vehicle was recovered a short time later, in the 700 block of Amhurst Drive. Officers found an injured female passenger in the vehicle. she had suffered a wound to her right side hip/buttocks area and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. A handgun was located in the stolen vehicle.

Ladd ran from the vehicle but was apprehended at 5:41 p.m. by a Volusia Sheriff's Office K-9 and his handler. He suffered a dog bite, which is expected during a K-9 apprehension and was treated at the hospital, released and transported to the Volusia County Jail.
