Ocean Center Hosts The Official Strongman Games

Daytona Beach, FL - The Ocean Center is the scene of the 2019 Official Strongman Games tomorrow through Sunday. Some of the strongest men and women in the world compete for the chance to win the title in their own weight class as the World's Strongest or a direct invite to Giants Live. Event promoter Lynn Morehouse said more than 200 athletes will compete and eight world titles will be handed out.

The competitors include 87 athletes from outside the U.S. which Morehouse said makes this the largest international strongman competition in history. He says the events are really fun to watch because of the spectacle attached. Two of the events happening Friday afternoon, beginning at 2 p.m., include the Viking Press and the Farmer's Walk, where athletes carry about 350 pounds per hand and basically, run down a course.

Saturday's events include a dead-lift ladder, where the weights can get up to 800 pounds. Morehouse said the last event on Saturday is probably the most grueling for the athletes, which is a carry and load medley. The athletes will carry three heavy implements to a sled, load it up and drag it back. At the end of the four events, the top ten competitors in each division will move on to the finalist events on Sunday.

Morehouse says the event is extremely family-friendly and he encourages parents to bring the kids because the events are really cool to watch. Also, children under the age of 12 get in free. Adult tickets are $20 per day or $30 for a 3-day pass. There's also a VIP Experience 3-day pass for $80 with preferred seating close to the action.
