OBPD: Phone Scam Says You Have An Arrest Warrant Out & Are Being Watched

Posted

Ormond Beach, FL – The Ormond Beach Police Department (OBPD) is warning residents about a phone scam going around that tells people they have a warrant out for their arrest and that they are being watched.

OBPD says they have received two complaints about the automated calls so far. They say that the caller asks you to wait on pursuing any kind of legal action and to call 281-393-0897 instead. Police say that this number has been traced back to other IRS phone scams. A transcript of the voicemail can be found below:

“An arrest warrant against you [unintelligible]. Right now, you and your physical property both are being monitored and its very important that I do hear back from you as soon as possible before we proceed further in any legal manor by direct call. That number is 281-393-0897. Again, the number is 281-393-0897. Thank you.”

OBPD warns residents to not fall for this scam and to be wary about giving out personal or financial information over the phone or in person to someone you do not know. If you find yourself as a victim of one of these scams, you are asked to report it to your local police department.
