NWS: Expect High Temps & Dry Weather

Daytona Beach, FL - The latest forecast from the National Weather Service in Melbourne proves that you're going to want to pick some light clothing for the rest of the week.

Matt Volkmer, the Lead Meteorologist at NWS Melbourne, says a strong ridge of high pressure will continue over the area into the middle of the week, which will bring hot temperatures and low to no rain chances with it.

"Near the coast we're looking for some lower to mid 90's and we may see some upper 90's across the inland areas of Central Florida," said Volkmer.

The week long outlook so far predicts temperatures in the 90's throughout the majority of the week.

However, the NWS is saying that there could be a break in the temperatures headed into the weekend and early next week with chances of isolated showers and thunderstorms.

"But, until that happens most of this week we're going to see dry conditions," said Volkmer.

And those dry conditions could be bothersome.

According to Volkmer, there is an elevated threat of fire weather danger in the area at the moment thanks to the high temperatures and lower relative humidity.

"We're expecting at least a chance for wildfires," said Volkmer. "We're also concerned about the spread of those fires with the afternoon seabreeze getting a little gusty in the afternoon as it moves inland."

Volkmer also pointed out that the beaches in Volusia can expect a moderate risk of rip currents throughout the week.

In fact, Volusia County Beach Safety already rescued over 30 people from the water as of Sunday (May 26th).
