NSBPD Investigating Hit & Run Crash That Left 1 Dead, Another Injured

New Smyrna Beach, FLUpdate: Traffic Homicide Investigators have identified the suspect in the fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of one woman in New Smyrna Beach on Sunday.

The suspect's name has not been released as investigators are still working with the State Attorney's Office on pending charges. The case is still open and active.

Police are seeking information about a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred in New Smyrna Beach early Sunday morning.

At around 2 AM, New Smyrna Beach Police responded to the 3200 block of eastbound SR 44 after receiving calls about an accident with injuries. According to police, two vehicles were involved in the crash.

The first vehicle was driven by 21-year-old Kaelee Morrell. Morrell was treated at the scene, but she succumbed to her injuries. The passenger was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center with minor injuries.

The second vehicle was a black 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe. After the crash, the driver fled the scene and has yet to be identified. If you have any information about the crash, you are asked to contact Officer Schaeffer at 386-424-2220 or via email at wschaeffer@cityofnsb.com.
