New Smyrna Beach, FL - A 27-year-old man is charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling after a connection was made between several videos posted on the Ring Neighborhood Portal. Thomas Coleman was arrested by Volusia County Sheriff's deputies at the New Smyrna Beach Walmart yesterday (August 14) afternoon.

The arrest came after the Crime Center received an email notification from Ring when the latest victim posted a crime alert with video of a package being stolen in the Coastal Woods subdivision, to the Neighborhood Portal. NSBPD had already posted a bulletin with a suspect and vehicle description after several similar cases were reported. Crime Center analysts connected the most recent video with the description from previous cases, notified NSBPD and put in a call for service in the neighborhood.

NSBPD officers saturated the Coastal Woods subdivision in search of Coleman but actually found his vehicle at the Walmart on S.R. 44. The packages, with the victim's name and address, were plainly in view on the front passenger seat. Coleman was seen leaving a restroom inside the store. He was arrested without incident.

Coleman is in the Volusia County Jail, being held on a $5,000 bond.
