NOAA Finds Volusia County Emergency Management To Be ‘Storm Ready’ Again

Volusia County, FL - The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has recertified Volusia County Emergency Management as being StormReady.

StormReady is a national preparedness program that helps communities utilize National Weather Service guidelines to ensure that they are proactively managing hazardous weather operations. NOAA says that communities recognized as being StormReady are more prepared to deal with severe weather conditions and save lives.

These communities have undergone thorough planning, education, and awareness in order to receive the recognition. In order to be recognized, a community must have a warning and emergency operations center, promote community preparedness by holding public seminars, and develop a formal hazardous weather plan.

“Volusia County is vulnerable to many natural disasters, particularly devastating thunderstorms and hurricanes,” said Volusia County Emergency Management Director Jim Judge. "This renewed designation helps strengthen our local hazardous weather operations by ensuring that our community leaders have the tools needed to receive life-saving National Weather Service warnings in the quickest time possible.”

Volusia County Emergency Management was first designated as being StormReady in 2001. The most recent recognition will be valid through April 9, 2021. More information about Emergency Management can be found here.
