School Uniforms Volusia County

Volusia County, FL- Is your student ready to go back to school in Volusia County? There's something new beginning this school year when an established school uniform requirement will apply to all students enrolled in grades K-12 in Volusia County Schools. Nancy Wait, Director of Community Information, said that the bottoms, pants, shorts or skirts that are already in your closet can be used. They need to be black, navy or tan. As for the shirts, the requirements are more specific. The county-wide color is white with each school allowed to pick two other colors. You can find your schools colors on the District's website. The uniform discussion went on for some time before it was voted on and approved earlier this year. Wait said the discussion began in August of 2015 and continued until it was approved in March of this year. One reason is that uniforms can improve safety, making it easier to spot someone that does not belong on campus. The Volusia County School Board is aware that not everyone family can afford the uniform requirements. Wait said that there is financial assistance available. She suggests contacting the principal or your child's guidance counselor to see what plans they have in place.
