Daytona Beach, FL-Daytona Beach dog owners will have a new place to let their four-legged friends play leash-free. The Halifax Humane Society opens its new park to dogs and humans on June 3.

A plan to create an open park for dogs began in 2014 when the Halifax Humane Society purchased three acres of land on LPGA Boulevard off of I-95. C-F-O Mark Ugarte said an important step was matching funds for an ECHO grant from Volusia County

A dog park, boarding house and grooming facility have been created on the property. The boarding house and groomers are open to cats and dogs alike. The new facility will be open to travelers and residents of the Daytona Beach area.

Ugarte said they were able to keep most of the park in its natural state, keeping the Florida brush and preserving palm trees.

The new dog park is right next to the Humane Society facility. Ugarte said the idea is that if people bring their dogs to the park, they may come inside and give a deserving cat or dog a new home.

Community Outreach Director Amber Marcoux added that she hopes the community will take advantage of the park with their dogs.

The grand opening of the community dog park is on Friday, June 3rd, at 10:00am. The park will be open daily during regular business hours and feature areas for both small and large dogs on and off a leash.

In addition to increasing traffic at the shelter, Halifax Humane Society plans to offer opportunities such as agility & training at the dog park, special events, and much more, to strengthen the human & animal bond

In honor of the Dog Park’s Grand Opening Celebration, Halifax Humane Society will offer an adoption special from June 3rd through June 5th, featuring discounts on both small and large dogs.
