National Drug Take-Back Day Is Tomorrow

DeLand, FL - Local law enforcement agencies and the DEA are asking for your unwanted, unused prescription medications tomorrow during National Drug Take-back Day, which runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Volusia Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Laura Williams said statistics show that unused medications can be dangerous to children and elderly people. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health reports that more than 9.9 million Americans misused prescription drugs in 2018.

Something new this year: vape pens or other e-cigarette devices are also being collected. Williams said the batteries must be removed before drop-off. She says if you're unable to remove the battery yourself, check with large chain stores who may accept the vape pen or e-cigarette for disposal.

Anyone with unused medications can drop them off at any one of the five District offices. Williams said you can find the address of the offices located in DeLand, Ormond Beach, New Smyrna Beach, Deltona or DeBary on the Sheriff's Office webpage or on their Facebook page.

Most local police departments are also accepting unused medication, including Ormond Beach. One city is opting out of this year's collection and that's Daytona Beach.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office will have four drop-off locations in Palm Coast. They are the FCSO branch on Old Kings Road, in the Belle Terre Crossings, the Town center Plaza and at Island Walk Plaza.
