NASA Chooses Local Company For Commercial Lunar Landing Services

Port Orange, FL - A company awarded a $97.7 million contract from NASA to build lunar landers capable of delivering commercial payloads plans to set up manufacturing operations in Port Orange.

Orbit Beyond, Inc. is a New Jersey start-up. In a press release on the company's website, the contract is part of the Commercial Lunar Payload Services Program.

It's the beginning of a new era of deep space commercial services in support of NASA's plan to send astronauts, including the first woman, to the Moon by 2024.

Siba Padhi, Orbit Beyond President said, ""We're thrilled to be selected for renewed American presence on the lunar surface."

The company will initially employ 20 workers but the local workforce could grow to as many as 50 employees.
