Motorcyclist Struck By Lightning On I-95

UPDATE: The motorcyclist killed in the accident is identified as Benjamin Austin Lee of Charlotte, NC. This crash is still under investigation.

Ormond Beach, FL - Florida Highway Patrol believes that lighting may have played into a motorcyclist's fatal crash on I-95 in Volusia County.

Troopers say the 45-year-old man from Charlotte, North Carolina was traveling down southbound I-95 between US-1 and State Road 40 (mile marker 270) around two o'clock yesterday afternoon (June 9th).

Then, lightning was seen striking the man's helmet just seconds before his crash.

He began to lose control and eventually the bike ran off the highway and overturned, ejecting him off the vehicle.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified as next-of-kin notification is still pending.

The crash remains under investigation,
