Former Police Officer Killed In East DeLand Accident

UPDATE (06-22-18): The motorcyclist who died has been identified as 30-year-old Jonathan L. Swallows of DeLand. The DeLand Police Department says he was a former officer.

The motorcyclist in Thursday’s fatal wreck has been identified as Jonathan Lee Swallows, 30 of DeLand. He worked briefly as a police officer for the department in 2011. Our thoughts are with his family as they deal with this loss.

Earlier reporting below. DeLand, FL - Police in DeLand are trying to figure out what led to a fatal accident on the east side of the city this afternoon. A motorcycle collided with a vehicle around 2:40 p.m. at the intersection of North Boston and East Wisconsin avenues, killing the motorcyclist at the scene. Police officials have yet to identify the victim or the other driver involved, but did say that driver was also hurt and had to go to the hospital. No other details have been released at this time by the DeLand Police Department.
