Motorcyclist From Port Orange Injured In Crash With Car In South Daytona

South Daytona, FL - A motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after his motorcycle crashed with another vehicle in South Daytona on Thursday night. The South Daytona Police Department says that 54-year-old Richard Jay McLaughlin, of Port Orange, was driving a 2016 Chrysler northbound along the 2000 block of U.S. 1. at around 7:07 PM Thursday and made a left turn to travel west into the parking lot of the Big Tree Plaza. The Chrysler was struck by a Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling southbound on U.S. 1, driven by 67-year-old Danny Fox, of Port Orange. The motorcycle skidded about 15 feet before hitting the Chrysler, and it struck the vehicle's right front passenger side. Fox was rushed to Halifax Health in Daytona in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet, according to South Daytona police. Alcohol is not thought to be a factor in the crash. Police say there may be unknown witnesses to this crash.
