Daytona Beach, FL-Two items on the Daytona Beach City Commission agenda Wednesday night are pretty routine business for commissioners, but they both point to the fast-paced changes going on around the I-95/LPGA Boulevard interchange. One item is for rezoning nearly 1600 acres for the Minto planned community and the other is for land use for a planned Sam’s Club store.
The Minto development, announced in 2014, will be age-restricted to adults 55 and up and will allow for up to 3,400 residential units and more than 200,000 square feet of commercial usage. Minto has numerous communities in Florida including in Orlando, Tampa/Sarasota, Palm Beach/Ft. Lauderdale and Naples. The Sam’s Club development is for 150,000 square foot building.
Daytona Beach Zone 4 Commissioner Rob Gilliland represents that area and says a series of road upgrades and changes over recent years led up to the developement we’re seeing now surrounding that interchange. Gilliland says the Sam’s Club, in the works for the site for about 2 years, will be a welcome addition there as, he says, “There really isn’t an opportunity for folks to shop for food…and Sam’s Club has done a really good job of not just being a big box store but you can really utilize it as a grocery store, as well.” As for the Minto planned community, Gilliland says he expects to see groundbreaking in 2017, but maybe as soon as late 2016. Gilliland says “the real coup out there was Tanger Oulets” and says that changed the dynamic for property there for both “the rate at which it’s was selling and the dollar amount it’s selling for.”
