Meet & Greet For South Daytona Manager Candidates

UPDATE (11-30-18): By a unanimous vote (5-0), the South Daytona City Council voted to hire Gillis. Contract negotiations are underway and the contract is expected to be on the agenda for next week's meeting (December 11th).

South Daytona, FL - South Daytona residents will have the chance tonight (November 29th) to talk to the two men going for the City Manager job.

William Lanham II (left) and Lester Gillis (right) are scheduled to be at a "meet and greet" this evening at the Piggotte Community Center on Big Tree Road. It starts at 5:30 and will run for at least 90 minutes, according to city officials.

Gillis is the current Public Works Director for South Daytona and was also named the Deputy City Manager in October 2017. Lanham is the current town manager for Fayetteville, West Virginia.

Both men are looking to replace longtime city manager Joe Yarbrough, who is retiring after over 30 years working for South Daytona.

The City Council will hold a special meeting tomorrow morning (November 30th) to interview both men for the job. That starts at 9 o'clock from City Council Chambers at South Daytona City Hall on Ridgewood Avenue.
