May Is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

Tallahassee, FL - The month of May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. The recognition is an effort to highlight the importance of improving safety and reducing motorcycle crashes. Edie Peters, Florida Department of Transportation Safety Program Manager said vehicle drivers, as well as motorcyclists, need to be more aware and drive more responsibly.

Safety is the number one priority of FDOT every day of the year but during the month of May, an additional focus is placed on motorcycles and encouraging all road users to share the road and watch for motorcyclists.

FDOT encourages motorcyclists to continue training, partnering with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) and several motorcycle training providers in order to offer advanced rider courses at a reduced cost through the month of May.
