Palm Coast, FL - The all-clear is sounded at a Flagler County high school after a student saw something suspicious while in the bathroom.

The Matanzas High School campus was locked down around 1:30 PM Wednesday by the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

Flagler County Schools spokesman Jason Wheeler says it all started when a student saw in a bathroom mirror what appeared to be the reflection of a weapon being held by another student.

"That student reported the incident to a school administrator and the campus’ security status was immediately placed on code orange," Wheeler added. "Students and staff were told to remain in their classrooms."

Members of the Florida Highway Patrol and Florida Fish & Wildlife also responded to the campus to help FCSO do a sweep, one that turned up nothing suspicious, per Wheeler.

"No weapon was found," Wheeler noted. "Around 2:40 PM, buses were allowed on campus and

afternoon dismissal [got] underway. Students and staff were safe and secure throughout

the event."

School buses were delayed to Indian Trails Middle School, Belle Terre Elementary School and Old Kings Elementary School because of the nearly 45-minute delay in clearing the Matanzas High School campus.

All afterschool activities resumed as normal, according to FCS Superintendent Jacob Oliva.

"We encourage our students to follow the 'see something, say something' protocol and applaud this student for doing just that," Oliva added. "We also appreciate the quick response from our local law enforcement that ensures the ongoing safety and security of our students and staff."
