bullet in hand Ormond Beach, FL - The man who fired a gun in a busy Walmart parking lot and hit a car with a woman and her 8-year-old child inside turned himself in on Tuesday. 38-year-old Jay Philip Estes of Palm Coast went to to the Ormond Beach Police Department on August 23 and gave a sworn statement, which was audio recorded and hand written. His account of the incident strongly resembles that of Grant A. Zimmerman, a witness who provided police with a sworn statement on August 11. According to these statements, around 9:15 on the night of Tuesday, August 9, Estes and Zimmerman met regarding a Craigslist Ad. Zimmerman sold Estes a pair of motorcycle boots, then Estes said that Zimmerman should carry a firearm for safety when he's meeting with people he doesn't know. Estes then took a revolver out of his pocket and emptied the rounds. According to Zimmerman, Estes then quickly pulled the gun out of his pocket to show how quickly it could be done (Estes told investigators he didn't remember that detail) then pulled the trigger 3 times. On the 3rd trigger pull, the gun fired towards Granada Blvd. The two looked at each other then left the scene. According to the police report, the bullet hit the vehicle being driven by Sonia Boles who was headed westbound on Granada at around 9:28 PM. The bullet went through the passenger-side door and into the center console where it stopped, inches away from hitting her. Boles' 8-year-old child was in the back seat at the time of the incident. Estes does have a Concealed Weapons Permit and he told Zimmerman that he sells guns, but according to Public Information Officer Keith Walker, Estes "might have sold a personal gun or a couple personal guns, but he's not a dealer." Estes is facing a misdemeanor charge for discharging a firearm in public. DSC_0010 DSC_0011 DSC_0014
