Man Who Killed Suspected Ormond Pedophile At Age 14 Gets New Sentence

Volusia County, FL - A man who was sentenced to life in prison for killing a suspected pedophile in Ormond Beach as a 14-year-old was re-sentenced on Monday. Mark Berrios, now in his 30's, shot and killed Olen Hepler, a 46-year-old suspected pedophile in Ormond-by-the-Sea back in 1994. Originally, Berrios was sentenced to life in prison in 1995, but during Monday's re-sentencing, that was reduced to 30 years. Berrios will only need to serve another seven years under his new sentence, which comes after a 2012 Florida Supreme Court decision which ruled life sentences for juveniles unconstitutional.
