Volusia County, FL - Volusia County Beach Safety officers were busy this weekend rescuing people from an extremely strong rip current.

At around 6:15 on Saturday night a 27-year-old man was pulled from the surf near the Oakridge Beach Approach. When they pulled him out of the water he wasn't breathing and he had no pulse. Lifeguards performed CPR until first responders arrived on scene. He was taken to Halifax Health where, as of Sunday night, he was listed in critical condition. According to Beach Safety officials, he now has a pulse and is breathing with the assistance of a ventilator. He's visiting from Ohio and no other details have been released at this time.

At around 3:45 PM on Sunday a 13-year-old girl from Ocala was swimming in an unguarded area when she became exhausted because of the strong rip current conditions. Her family helped her to shore then called 911. Beach Safety came and provided first aid until rescue units arrived. She was taken to Halifax Health as a precaution and for further observation. She's expected to make a full recovery.
