Handcuffs crime man arrest Volusia County, FL-A Volusia County Sheriff's sergeant had to use his vehicle for cover after a man tried to run him over during a traffic stop.  Sergeant McKnight escaped uninjured but the driver, 28-year-old Ray Phillips, is charged with fleeing/eluding, and aggravated assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. Deputy Fletcher positively identified Phillips traveling on Edgewater Canal Road on Monday afternoon. Since Phillips had an open felony warrant, Deputy Fletcher attempted to stop him but Phillips kept driving. The report states that Phillips drove at Sergeant McKnight on South Myrtle Avenue just a few minutes later, forcing the officer to get behind his vehicle for safety. Phillips changed the direction of travel and the Sergeant was able to deploy stop sticks on the vehicle. The vehicle was eventually located near Greenlawn Street and Brooks Street, but Phillips fled on foot. He was caught a short time later with the assistance of Air One and K-9. Ray Phillips
