Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach Police officers captured a man who tried robbing the SunTrust Bank, located at 200 S. Palmetto Avenue, in a little under an hour yesterday (September 30). Department Public Information Officer Messod Bendayan, said 51-year-old Robert Tuck went into the bank just before 2 p.m. and was captured in the 100 block of N. Hollywood at 2:55 p.m.

Tuck went into the bank, waited in line and when he got to the teller, handed her a note on a piece of paper that stated: "This is a robbery. Give me all your $100s and no dye packets or I will kill all clients in the bank. I have a gun." The teller responded that she had no one hundred dollar bills in her drawer. She said that Tuck grabbed the note back from her and left the building.

Officers responded to the silent alarm and arrived just minutes after Tuck left. The teller told officers that he had headed east on Magnolia Avenue, on foot. She described him as an older, white male with a white shirt, black shoes, khaki shorts, a hat, and a red and black backpack. She told officers that she did not see a weapon but one was implied. Witnesses in the bank confirmed the teller's account of what happened

An officer canvassing City Island Park heard the suspect's description and saw a red and black backpack on a bench similar to what was described. A man sitting on the bench told the officer Tuck rode up on a blue bicycle and threw the bag on the bench, put on a jacket and ride off on a blue mountain bicycle, leaving the bag behind.

The additional information was added to the description and another officer spotted Tuck headed northbound on Halifax Avenue just past Main Street, then turning right on to Auditorium, then left on to North Hollywood Avenue. The officer caught up with Tuck and initiated a stop. As the officer was patting him down, Tuck said "Got me." The officer asked if he had gotten rid of the gun to which Tuck responded that there was no weapon.

Tuck is in the Volusia County Jail being held on no bond on a charge of Attempted Robbery.
