Deltona, FL - A man was arrested late Monday night just minutes after he stabbed someone after a family argument.

47-year-old David A. Ramsey of Geneva was taken into custody at around 11:56 PM in the 600 block of Hartley Ave in Deltona, about 22 minutes after the 911 call came in about the stabbing at 600 E Normandy Blvd.

Witnesses said a fight broke out during an argument between Ramsey and 47-year-old Joseph Whitmer, also of Geneva, who's Ramsey's cousin by marriage. The fight moved outside where Ramsey pulled a knife and stabbed Whitmer several times. Whitemer was transported to central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford in critical condition.

Ramsey took off from the scene of the stabbing on foot into a heavily wooded area and was quickly apprehended by a VCSO K-9 unit. Once in custody, Ramsey complained of chest pains so he was treated on scene then brought to the hospital. He was then taken to the Volusia County Jail where he's being held without bond.

"Our victim is still in the hospital and still in critical condition, last I heard," said Andrew Gant, Public Information Officer with VCSO, "and we're hoping he pulls through. Our suspect, in the meantime, is charged with attempted 2nd-degree murder." Ramsey's also facing charges of battery and violation of parole.
