Holly Hill, FL – Holly Hill police have arrested a man who broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house and severely beat her new boyfriend. On Friday at around 8:45 AM, police responded to a residence on Cherokee Ranch Road in Holly Hill after Christine Garrett reported her ex-boyfriend, 28-year-old Demetrius Green, was trying to force his way into her home. Green first tried to enter the home through a window but realized it was too small to make entry so he smashed the sliding glass door. Green then confronted Garrett’s sleeping boyfriend and began to beat him. The boyfriend was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center via ambulance. He sustained multiple lacerations to his forehead after Green punched his face multiple times. He was bloodied and was knocked to the floor as a result of the beating. Police found him face down in a pool of blood unable to communicate clearly. According to Holly Hill police, Green had an outstanding warrant for violation of probation for felony battery out of St. Johns County. Green fled the scene of the beating but was later located near the intersection of 10th Street and Daytona Avenue. Green told police that earlier that morning he and his girlfriend were notified at their apartment on S. Peninsula Drive by fire officials that her car had been burned and severely damaged. Green said he suspected that Garrett had done it and walked to her residence to confront her. He told police that he engaged in an argument with Garrett about the car and that Garrett’s boyfriend arrived and tried to punch him. Green said they both engaged in a fight and the conflict moved inside. Police indicate in the incident report that they do not believe Green’s side of the story based on photographs taken at the scene. Police believe Green broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house to beat her boyfriend “out of anger.” Green was charged with felony battery and burglary of an occupied dwelling. Green was also arrested on the St. Johns County warrant.
