New Smyrna Beach, FL – According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO), 2 people were injured Saturday after an amphibious plane crashed on Lake Ashby near New Smyrna Beach.

At 11:25 AM on Saturday morning, a boater called 911 and reported seeing a SeaRey amphibious aircraft crash and flip on the lake. The injured plane passengers were husband and wife Chris and Vivienne Carlson, aged 58 and 67, respectively. They held onto the side of the man’s boat before he and others could pull them aboard.

The boater took them to land where first responders took over and sent the couple to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford for treatment of injuries to the head and face.
