IRS & Ormond Beach Police Warn Residents Of Phone Scams Hitting Central FL

Posted

Ormond Beach, FL - The Ormond Beach Police Department (OBPD) says IRS Telephone Scams have been reported throughout central Florida.

The scam involves someone claiming to be from the IRS and threatening to call the police on people if they don't make an immediate payment. The Internal Revenue Service says they never call citizens and demand payment, or threaten to have them arrested.

The IRS is asking anyone who thinks they may be a victim to call the Treasury Inspector General for Tax at 800-366-4484 and report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov.

The OBPD advises people to stop giving out personal, credit card, or bank account information to anyone you don't know. If you or someone you know has been a victim of this scam, contact your local police department to report the incident.
