Interfaith Gathering 061316

Daytona Beach, FL-Hundreds came out for an interfaith gathering Monday night at Daytona Beach Police headquarters. Faith leaders from across the spectrum came to pray for the victims of the mass shooting at an LGBT nightclub in Orlando on Sunday.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood contacted Father Phil Egitto in order to bring the faith leaders together. Father Egitto of Our Lady of Lourdes runs an LGBT outreach. He said the "Hate has to end." He will hold a prayer service at 7 P.M. on Tuesday at the church.

Another faith leader in attendance on Monday was Rabbi Howard Schwartz. Sunday's news devastated him deeply as he has a son who is gay. Rabbi Schwartz said he is concerned about the grief of all the people that love those that have been wounded and those that have died.

Chief Chitwood said that the people who commit mass murders should not be defined by their religion. He said that it's the "fringe" that wants to divide us and that's what we have to protect against.
