New Smyrna Beach, FL - The Southeast Volusia County Humane Society in New Smyrna Beach has taken in 35 dogs as part of a nationwide effort to provide aid in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, which crashed into the Texas coast over the weekend as a Category 4 hurricane.

Most of the dogs are from Louisiana, but a handful are from Texas. Now the New Orleans shelter where they came from will have space to take in dogs that have been displaced by Harvey.

The Southeast Volusia County Humane Society is also getting help from the Pawsibilities Rescue Group in Port Orange and Sophie's Circle Dog Rescue in New Smyrna Beach.
