Growing Sinkhole Forces Closure Of US 17/92 In DeBary

UPDATE (08-26-18): FDOT has filled the sinkhole, but the road will remain closed for at least a few days.
Earlier reporting below. DeBary, FL - Expect part of U.S. 17/92 to remain closed for at least a few days this week as a sinkhole which formed last week got bigger. The Florida Department of Transportation first reported the issue on Friday near Hollow Pine Drive in DeBary, forcing the initial closure of all northbound lanes on 17/92, also known as Charles R. Beall Boulevard.
One northbound lane eventually opened up in time for the afternoon rush after temporary repairs were done, but it didn't stay that way for long. FDOT closed it again on Saturday after discovering that the hole was bigger than first thought because of a water main break.
"FDOT is now working on a permanent repair solution, including work that calls for injecting grout — a type of fluid concrete — into the ground," noted FDOT spokesperson Steve Olson. "More testing of the area will be needed before that occurs. Upcoming work could require additional closures and detours." Northbound traffic is now being detoured along Highbanks Road, Enterprise Road and Saxon Blvd until repairs are complete. Southbound traffic shouldn't be affected.
