Pro Transgender Students' Rights Group To Protest At Volusia School Board Meeting

DeLand, FL - Parents, teachers, and residents are expected to join Indivisible DeLand and members of the ACLU in a show of support for Transgender rights and the LGBGTQ+ community at Tuesday night's Volusia County School Board meeting.

Volusia County never put the Obama administration's federal guidelines into effect, but those gathering at the February 28 school board meeting think they should be enforced and upheld, whether or not they're supported by the president. Those guidelines basically say that transgender students should be protected under Title IX, which is designed to prevent gender discrimination, and they should be allowed to use the bathroom that corresponds to their gender identity.

The School Board meeting starts at 5:30 PM and will be held in the Board Room of the DeLand Administrative Complex at 200 N Clara Ave in DeLand. The group with Indivisible DeLand will be holding a silent protest at 4:30 PM.
