New Smyrna Beach, FL - A contract for a new playground at the New Smyrna Beach 27th Ave. Beachfront Park is signed and the groundbreaking ceremony is set for tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Some of the funding for the playground, $220,000, is a Volusia County ECHO Grant.  The playground's final design includes a main play structure complete with an ADA-compliant internal ramping system for easy access to slides, a rocking "Cruiser," musical instruments, and multiple climbing and balancing platforms for more challenging play. A vortex spinner, a form of modernized merry-go-round accessible to all children and a swing set that includes two swings, an ADA-compliant swing, and a "Konnection" swing allowing two people to swing together. The playground's surface is also special - an artificial grass application that will guard against fade and excessive wear.  This surfacing is easy to maintain while providing excellent comfort to barefooted beachgoers.  In response to resident preferences shade will also be available on the playground.  Shade sails will provide comfort and protection for the new equipment and surfacing.
