Daytona Beach, FL - A local nonprofit is set to get a free energy makeover from FPL that will help conserve energy and save money.

On Tuesday, September 20, FPL will be doing a nonprofit energy makeover (NEMO) at Work Oriented Rehab Center (WORC) at 1100 Jimmy Ann Drive in Daytona Beach. WORC's goal is to help disabled individuals by providing residential services, adult basic education and adult day training.

FPL will upgrade WORC's air-conditioning, making the system more energy efficient, and programmable thermostats will be installed that will allow the organization to utilize FPL's On Call program for small businesses. With On Call, WORC gives FPL permission to turn off the AC system for short periods of time if needed, and in return the organization gets a credit on it's electric bills.

FPL will work with staff from WORC to teach them how to be energy-efficient, and the makeover is expected to save the organization some serious cash on their energy bills. "We're looking at, in combination with installing the programmable thermostats, air-conditioning, and the on-call, probably savings of about $2,700 a year," said Larry Volenec, External Affairs Regional Manager for FPL. "And we feel good because they can use that on additional programs for their clients."

FPL started doing these "NEMO's" back in 2009. "Since then we've completed about 22 state wide and this one with WORC is going to be our 23rd," said Volenec.

To be considered for the next NEMO in the Central FL area, call FPL or go to FPL.com\bee. Set up an appointment, and someone will come out to complete an energy survey. "We look for nonprofit organizations that are making a difference in our communities to see how we can help them out," said Volenec.
