Port Orange, FL - A former NASCAR driver, who lives in Port Orange, has been indicted for allegedly attempting to pay for sex with a 12-year-old girl. 59-year-old Richard Hoyt Crawford, from Port Orange, was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida. If convicted, Crawford could face a minimum of 10 years, up to life in prison. Court documents say that between February 10 and February 28 of this year, Crawford had emailed and texted an undercover agent, who was acting as the father of a 12-year-old girl. Crawford allegedly asked for a picture of the "girl" and offered to pay between $50 and $75 to have sex with the "girl." Federal agents say that Crawford traveled from Port Orange to Seminole County on February 28 for the arranged sexual encounter. When Crawford arrived at the agreed upon location in Seminole County, he was arrested by federal agents. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ilianys Rivera Miranda, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
