Florida Hospital Tearing Down Old Ormond Location

Ormond Beach, FL - Florida Hospital's former beachside location in Ormond Beach is too damaged to be saved.

Company officials tell us that's the reason why plans are now in place to tear down the old Oceanside Hospital on A1A, putting aside earlier plans to repair it and reopen sometime next year.

Spokesperson Lindsay Cashio says structural assessments done recently by the hospital shows it's not feasible to get the building operational again.

"Over the course of the next several months, we will work with permitting and regulatory agencies to develop appropriate, environmentally conscientious plans," Cashio added. "Florida Hospital wants to ensure that the recyclable items stay out of the landfill."

The building hasn't been used since Irma came through last September, compromising an exterior wall and adding more wind and water damage to what Matthew had done the year prior.

It took six months for the facility to open after Matthew because of the damage caused by that storm.

The tentative plan is for the demolition to happen sometime next year, assuming Florida Hospital can clear all the necessary hurdles with local and state authorities.

Florida Hospital hasn't decided what that property will be used for once the building comes down.
