Florida Hospital Fish Memorial Receives Special Spinal Surgery Certification

Posted

Orange City, FL - Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City has been recognized as the only hospital facility in Volusia or Flagler Counties to earn certification for spinal surgery from the Joint Commission, an independent, not-for-profit national organization. In order for hospital facilities to receive this distinction from the Joint Commission, the facilities must demonstrate compliance with national standards and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for the following three different procedures:
  • The surgical removal of the whole or a part of an intervertebral disc (known as a discectomy)
  • A surgery to remove the back of one or more vertebrae to give access to the spinal cord or to relieve pressure on nerves (known as a laminectomy)
  • Spinal fusion, a surgical technique that joins two or more vertebrae
Florida Hospital Fish Memorial said in a news release last week that the Orange City hospital has also earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for total hip and total knee replacement surgery. Florida Hospital Fish Memorial is a member of Adventist Health System, a faith-based healthcare organization with 46 hospital campuses in nine states, serving more than 5 million patients annually.
