Volusia & Flagler Counties, FL - The Florida Hospital East Florida Region (FHEFR) was recently given a Colorectal Cancer Partnership Award and a $7,500 grant from the American Cancer Society.

As the only recipient out of 22 hospital systems in Florida, Florida Hospital will use the funds to host colorectal cancer education events and symposiums throughout the year.

Trina Lynd, a radiation oncology medical physicist, is excited to help educate the community on the importance of regular screenings after losing her brother to colorectal cancer. "On a national scale, there isn't enough education or awareness about this disease, which is far too common," she said.

The FHEFR has also committed to the American Cancer Society's "80 percent by 2018" pledge. This is a national campaign that aims to get 80 percent of American adults, age 50 and older, to undergo regular screenings for colorectal cancer by 2018.

Nationally, more than 1,000 organizations are committed to the American Cancer Society's "80 percent by 2018" pledge.
