Florida Governor Visits Bunnell To Push Hurricane Sales Tax Holiday

Bunnell, FL - Florida's Governor is urging residents in the Daytona Beach area to make sure they're ready for hurricane season. At a press conference this afternoon inside the Ace Hardware store on North State Street in Bunnell, Rick Scott pushed the state's week-long sales tax holiday for hurricane preparedness, saying it's a great way to stock up before a tropical storm comes knocking on the door.
"We've already had our first storm [this year], Alberto," Scott noted. "[Florida has] had seven storms the last two years." Alberto formed late last month into a Subtropical Storm before striking the Florida Panhandle. The Republican also drew attention to the ownership team of this particular Ace store, praising them for keeping this location and others they own open late to supply people when Hurricane Irma came calling last year. After the conference, the Republican spoke to several customers at the store, some of whom told Scott they plan to vote for him to replace Democrat Bill Nelson as one of Florida's United States Senators this November. Scott cannot run for governor again due to term limits. While a hurricane preparedness sales tax holiday isn't new to Florida, this is the first year it will last for an entire week since that change was approved by the Florida Legislature. Hurricane season officially began on June 1st and ends November 30th.
