Flagler School Board Picks Atlantic HS Principal To Be Next Superintendent

Flagler County, FL - The Flagler County School Board has unanimously selected the next Superintendent of Schools.

Mr. James Tager was 1 of 3 finalists to take part in a 3-day interview process following a nationwide search. He's currently the principal of Atlantic High School in Port Orange and has spent the past 11 years as a school or district administrator with Volusia County Schools. While he was principal at New Smyrna Beach Middle School and then later New Smyrna Beach High School, school grades rose from a B to an A. While he was deputy superintendent for Volusia County Schools in 2014-2015 the district's grade rose from a C to a B. He started his long teaching career back in 1982.

Tager has a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Special Education from Flagler College and he has a Masters in Administration and Supervision from Nova Southeastern University.

School Board Chairman Trevor Tucker and Board Attorney Kristy Gavin have begun contract negotiations with Tager. The goal is to have him start his new position by June 1st.
