Bunnell, FL - An inmate at Flagler County Jail is now in critical condition after he had some sort of medical issue while in custody.

Flagler Live is reporting that 23-year-old Anthony J. Fennick is now brain dead after complaining to jail staff for days about a high fever and other issues.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office issued a brief statement saying they're looking into the situation after having to take Fennick to the hospital on Monday (February 4th).

"Inmate medical staff were preparing to transport Fennick to AdventHealth by ambulance when he suffered a medical episode," stated FCSO spokesperson Brittany Kershaw. "Flagler County Sheriff’s Detectives are currently investigating to determine the circumstances surrounding the sudden onset of symptoms."

FCSO Chief Steve Cole says the medical team at the jail responded as soon as the episode happened.

“Our medical team screens and evaluates every inmate at the detention facility,” Chief Steve Cole said. “The medical team is available to inmates at their request."

Fennick was at the jail as part of a 300-day sentence for violating probation on burglary and drug charges. He started serving that sentence on January 9th.
