Flagler County, FL - Stephen Garten has been named as the new emergency chief in Flagler County and he brings a lot of experience to the new post.

Between 2004 and 2005 Garten was sent to 25 of Florida's 67 counties as part of the recovery efforts of hurricanes Frances, Jeanne, Katrina, and Wilma. In 2008, he worked in and around Flagler after tropical storm Faye.

"I am eager to bring to Flagler County and its citizens my federal emergency management experience, which includes 12 presidential-level declared disasters and the subsequent reimbursement processes," said Stephen Garten, Flagler County's new Public Safety Emergency Manager.

"We looked at resumes from across the country, and we were most impressed by Mr. Garten's ability to operate in both national and local arenas, as well as the range of his experience," said County Administrator Craig Coffey. "We are also excited we could hire someone with his expertise within Flagler County."

Garten is a native Floridian and has lived in Palm Coast since 2006 with his wife and daughter. "I'm happy to be home," said Garten. "Even though I've lived here I worked everywhere else. But I was always hoping to come home sometime and work here."
