Palm Coast, FL - A 36-year-old Palm coast man already in the Flagler County Jail on multiple drug and gun charges is now facing additional charges that could lead to a life in prison sentence. Corey Richard Lynch was arrested on May 23. The next day, Flagler County sheriff's deputies got a warrant to search his truck which was in impound, where they found drugs and a firearm.
The search found a loaded firearm, with no round in the chamber. A six inch zippered bag, when opened, contained a large quantity of various substances in baggies. Because of concerns about Fentanyl exposure, the was quickly closed and put into evidence.
Detectives reconvened at a secure location to go through the contents of the zippered bag. In one large baggie, there were 43 extra-small baggies, each containing a white powdery substance. A random sample from one of the baggies tested positive for the presence of Fentanyl. Five small baggies also contained a white powdery substance. Another random sample also tested positive for Fentanyl. Another large baggie that contained 22 extra small baggies, also containing a white powdery substance, tested positive for a combination of Heroin and Fentanyl. Baggie number four contained 20 extra small baggies each containing a quantity of a tan rock-like substance. Random contents tested positive for the presence of Heroin and Fentanyl. The fifth baggie contained 11 multi-colored tablets which tested positive for the active ingredient for "bath salts."
The total weight of each type of drug is summarized like this: 6.46 grams of Fentanyl, 3.86 grams of Heroin & Fentanyl and 2.04 grams of MDPV (bath salts).
“I am very proud of the deputies who initially stopped this poison peddler and were able to find his stash,” Sheriff Rick Staly said, “According to the Center for Disease Control, this guy had enough Fentanyl inside of his car to kill 20,000 people. In addition to the drugs, he also had a loaded gun. I am
thankful that we were able to stop him before his poison or his gun were able to take a life. This is a career criminal who obviously has no respect for the law and has not learned his lesson. Our deputies, detectives, and our Special Investigations Unit have done a great job getting him off the streets. I hope that the courts will keep him behind bars where he belongs for a long time.”
Additional charges for Lynch are Armed Trafficking of Fentanyl, Armed Possession of Heroin with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of MDPV (a drug similar to ecstasy).
Lynch's charges are eligible for enhancement under Florida Statute 775.087(1), known informally as the 10-20-Life law, is a mandatory minimum sentencing law in the U.S. state of Florida. The law concerns the use of a firearm during the commission of a forcible felony.
